"This resort is so well run, and it is reflected in every department. The staff at each step from the front door, to the gym, to the pool areas, the dining facilities, and housekeeping are all attentive, friendly, and service oriented. Food was consistently well prepared and served. The reservation dining areas offer some interesting and flavorful food options. Pool and private beach are fantastic. We enjoyed a restful and pleasant week at the Barcelo Karmina in Manzanillo. Thank you to all of the wonderful locals who work here."
"This was my wife and I first trip to the Cancun hotel district. Riu Ventura was amazing!! More or less brand new (fully renovated), inside and out.
I will say, we are used to resorts classified 3-4 stars, and not in congested hotel zones. So it initially felt very different from what we were used to. Kind of like an upscale hotel with multiple pools and amenities. My understanding was that Riu Ventura is not too wild but shuttles ran to the Riu Caribe a few times a week if you want that more party atmosphere.
The food was delicious. Buffet had plenty of selection and good quality fruits. The a la cartes were excellent. We ate at the Italian twice and Japanese once. Very good.
We hopped on the local bus that runs up and down the entire hotel zone. $1usd per person and you literally just flag it down and then tell the driver wherever you want to get off. The shopping mall area (huge) was less than 10mins away and it even has a full movie theatre with current movies in English with Spanish subtitles. A great way to spend an afternoon or evening after many days of straight heat and sun tanning. We took this bus to the small port where you get the ferry to Isla Majures. A great excursion to get off the resort and try something different. I forgot to bring my driver license so we couldn't rent the golf carts that are used everywhere to get around. So we just roamed around the North end a little before hopping back on the ferry to the mainland.
All in all, awesome trip"
Sunscape Cancun All-Inclusive Resort & Spa by Hyatt
8/10 Good
"Fairly good stay overall. The place was clean, the staff were helpful, and the food was good.
The only issue was the wristbands. At check-in, no one told us they had to stay on at all times. Since the room key is separate, the bands felt unnecessary, so we removed them. We spent an entire day at the resort without them and had no issues.
After returning from an excursion the next day, we were stopped and told we couldn’t access our room unless we paid a US$130 fee per band, which was mentioned in the waiver. After arguing that this should have been clearly explained verbally, the manager gradually reduced the fee to US$50. What made it more confusing was that he still allowed us into the room to get our credit cards, despite saying we couldn’t access the hotel without the bands."
