While planning our trip to the UK, my daughter and I wanted to either stay at a Manor house or Castle. Middlethorpe Hall was the perfect choice. It is several miles outside York, but less than 10 minutes by uber or taxi.
The staff was gracious and solicitous. We arrived just in time for tea. The food was fantastic, generous, and the location in the the ball room facing the beautiful green lawn was exactly what we had hoped for.

One tiny niggle - I suspect that the owner's suite was above my room and footsteps above were clearly audible (early and late only). I would strongly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

The restaurant is good, but they sometimes have events booked so it's not available - best to make a reservation to be sure. It's a bit of a long walk to get to the Minster (25 minutes), but not so far as it's not doable. Just bring comfy shoes!
