Hotel staff was amazing and friendly, so kind and nice. This hotel is an old mansion, there are only about 16 rooms, directly overlooking the walkway that is on the water and overlooking the ocean. Our room had a patio looking out at the ocean, with a hot tube, we slept with the doors open and the sound of waves all night long. Beautiful hotel with a million dollar view. We splurged for three nights at the Grand Hotel Portovenere and are happy we did. Best location in this beautiful town though one scould argue that it is hard to go wrong anywhere in Portovenere. My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Astoria for 6 nights in March. Overall, it is one of the very best hotels I have stayed in over many years of traveling -- solid, classy, very well-located building; comfortable room with a view of the Bay of Tigullio; a bounteous, tasty breakfast; and perhaps most important, hands-on, fully engaged hotel owners and employees who really care for their guests' comfort and enjoyment of the many attractions of Rapallo and the Ligurian coast.

My friends and I loved staying at Hotel Vesuvio. It's just a five minute walk to the train station to enjoy all of Cinque Terra and the ferry stop to go to Portofino and Santa Margarita was across the street. There are plenty of restaurants, some cool 11th century ruins, and a daily farmers market all within walking distance. We has a "family suite" with a balcony overlooking beautiful harbor. I’ve stayed here while on business several times. To me, it’s worth the premium because the location is quieter (especially at night), the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is friendly and helpful, and although the fitness center is small, it has a variety of new equipment.

Wonderful hotel in a perfect location with great staff.

Perfect location in Santa Margherita Ligure. The roof top pool has a lovely view. Staff extremely helpful. Loved hearing church bells in the morning.

This hotel is beautiful, not just the lobby but the rooms too. The public parking across the road, the lack of a close great beach and one unhelpful receptionist are the only reason I dont score it a 5 across the board. I would stay here again.

The rooms were very clean and modern. The room with the balcony was delightful opening up into the neighbor. The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was delightful with fresh meats, cheeses and hot options. The manager of the hotel chatted each visitor every morning. She was a wealth of information. These villages were affected by extreme damage from heavy rains in 2011 causing mudslides to devastate the villages. To see the restoration makes you realize how resilient people...

This was an amazing place! The location is something most people dream about! The view from our room was breathtaking!! We would definitely stay here again!!

We stayed at Hotel Stella for 4 nights in July while on our 30th Anniversary trip and had a wonderful experience. Our room was on the top floor attached to the upper patio/balcony with an amazing view of the ocean. Stephan, the owner, was extremely helpful. He gave us information about restaurants, how to get about town, and was a fantastic host. This hotel had some of the most incredible customer service I have ever experienced! All you had to do was ask about something and it was immediately taken care of! There aren't many places that have this standard of hospitality! The location is right across from a great beach and the chairs and umbrellas are included in the room price.
