Best city in Europe for museums. Well positioned for onward travel in all directions. Restaurants not as expensive as many other big CH cities. Public transport outstandingly good - even tram to Germany (where everything is far cheaper than CH).

Excellent
Cleanest, nicest, least crowded city in most of Europe. Big city with small town feel is an apt description. Beware though, everything (EVERYthing) is closed on Sunday and most stores are closed after 6.

Buy food from supermarkets like Migros and Co-op and enjoy cheap meals sitting by the river, you will save a lot of money rather than eating in restaurants and cafes the whole time!

Basel is very much a city that caters for cyclists so watch out when walking the numerous paths as it seems no one has invested in a bell so you have no warning of them approaching, probably at speed, from behind !
