It was centrally located right across the street from Kamaole I Beach, and while I wouldn't necessarily recommend staying anywhere in Kihei without a car, there were definitely places to eat and hang in walkable distance in both directions, and the hotel also offered a complementary shuttle service within a 3-mile radius. The best family rental ever. For the price compared to all the other resorts you get the most bang for your buck: location, FULL KITCHEN, laundry, guest services, beach access, shopping, and the most beautiful ocean with snorkeling magic galore. We saw sharks turtles and fish by Black Rock. It was amazing. Our daughter loved her first trip to Hawaii. We will definitely be back to west Maui and highly recommend the Whaler.

I like that this property is so close to the beach and shopping area. The gym and laundry facilities located on the same floor was convenient. I loved the staff and environment, I always go for a boutique style hotel to support the small businesses and I thought it was amazing. And a really good price also. To whoever is in these reviews saying they wanted it to be more resort like and BS like that should have booked at a resort if they wanted all the perks. For not being a beachfront hotel this place is beautifully located in Wailea with AMAZING views, made me forget it wasn't on the beach. That being said we were close enough to the beach that it didn't even matter. The hotel provided a shuttle to wherever we wanted to go within a three mile radius which was super convenient.
