Beneath towering peaks, this former coal mining town has transformed into a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts without losing its frontier soul. The Mountain Resort offers legendary powder skiing in winter, while summer reveals why locals call this the 'Wildflower Capital of Colorado.' Mountain bikers tackle the famous Trail 403 for views that justify every uphill pedal. The Victorian-era downtown feels refreshingly authentic, where ski boots and hiking shoes outnumber dress shoes at local watering holes. Visit the Mountain Heritage Museum to understand how miners became ski bums, then catch a performance at the Center for the Arts. The Nordic Center provides groomed trails for cross-country adventures when snow blankets the valley.
"Clean and very spacious room. Property was empty of staff. Communication was disconnected and awkward: lacked checkin details, there were no restaurants open on the mountain, building entry codes were not provided. Very different from past stays!"
"We were here for a wedding and every event (including the reception in the Public House) was within two blocks. This made our trip so easy. And by the way I did not know any of the event sites when I booked our stay at the Public House. The only place I would stay should I find myself in Crested Butte again."
