8/10 Very good

Very warm welcome at check in and helpful explanation of the facilities available at the Hotel. Clean room.

Great!

This castle is adorable. It's farther from Inverness than anticipated but nevertheless we enjoyed our stay. A few notes, the staff is SMALL. The daytime housekeepers double as evening bartenders and restaurant servers. The restaurant is quite good, but service is slow. The front desk lady is delightful and they made all efforts to accommodate our needs. (They rolled a cot into our room for our son, it was lumpy and uncomfortable but an extra mattress helped!) The room and bathroom and really the whole place is quirky and creaky like you'd expect, and walking the grounds was wonderful. It was essentially a B&B in an old mini-castle, and just what you'd want staying in ancient Scotland. (For a couple days, we wouldn't have wanted to stay there much longer.)

The Jacks on tour

Absolutely loved my stay - the hotel is very clean and the staff are so friendly and welcoming- The hotel was warm and spotlessly clean and the food was fantastic- both dinner and breakfast- was lovely to be able to sit with our drinks at an open fire - We will be back very soon xx

This property has so much potential if only some $ can be spent in updating it. The decor and fittings seems dates like from 1980s and please spend some $ on better bedding and pillows etc . So much potential but lost due to lack of investment

Staff are very attentive and cant do enough to make your stay a pleasure. Breakfast cooked to irder. My friend said the pancakes were fluffy and the best he had ever tasted and poached eggs were cooked to perfection! Dinner menu could be a bit more variable. Especially if you are staying more than 1 night, but the food was delicious. An elevator/ lift would be most appeciated !! Overall a most enjoyable visit.

From the photographs, Kincraig Castle Hotel potentially offered so much but delivered on nothing. My room, whilst large in size, was tired with mildew on the blinds and furniture from the 70s. A most uncomfortable bath. Dinner was dreadful. The location was the bar with 70’s style small metallic looking round tables squeezed in. My starter of homemade scotch egg was bland and tasteless and looked as if a small child had made it! It was accompanied by large pile of salad leaves and carrot. The waiter brought a bottle of dressing which turned out to be vinegar. I had to ask for salt and pepper as the cruets hadn’t been laid on the tables. My main course was absolutely inedible: the asparagus was grey, slimy and probably from a tin. The broccoli was equally grey and dreadfully overcooked. The sweet potato mash was horriblel having been over spiced and the tiny fillet of farmed sea bass was soggy and unpleasant. Breakfast was equally poor. How do you serve a grey sausage that has no caramelisation? Definitely a hotel to avoid! This is supposed to be a 4 star hotel!

It is a very comfortable country house hotel. The drawback is the restaurant is presently shut on Sundays and Mondays thus food has to be obtained elsewhere.

Amazing stay

Amazing location, food, staff and large open fire, well worth the journey. The staff were so helpful and engaging, we bought a few of the locally made jewellery that was on display. Large rooms with super comfortable bed, large bathrooms. The lounge by the fire having a drink after a cold day out sightseeing was welcomed.

Stayed two nights while visiting my daughter who lives nearby. Have stayed once before so knew the quality we were returning to. Staff were all exceptionally friendly and the hotel was decorated beautifully for Christmas. Only downside was not getting to spend enough time enjoying the hotel.
Janette, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Room was crazy hot when I entered. No way to turn it down so had to open windows (no screens). No place to put luggage. Shower was odd - it didn’t move so you had to stand against the wall. Water pressure was low, which made for a long, un refreshing experience.

6/10 Good

Beautiful building and grounds with very friendly staff (especially Sam & Mel) however Internet service is like something from the 90s. Three days of extreme frustration with service constantly dropping when trying to work. Complained numerous times but nothing improved. Excellent breakfast however lunch and dinner options extremely limited. Only 3 main course choices from Bar menu that closed at 5pm and only 3 choices from Dining menu also and they were same each day. No food available after 8.30pm, even for resident's.

Give this

If you are expecting the resturant on a sunday think again. we had travelled all day hoping to have a nice evening and meal . Only to be told the restaurant was closed. If we wanted food we could drive into the next village or order a takeaway. They did supply cutlery and plates for the takeaway. They also did have a list of restaurants and takeaways. The room was very dated, tiles in bathroom needed regrouting. We were supposed to be in a superior room. I dont know what the basic rooms were like. and also not cleaned properly. There were crumbs on the dresser.
Yvonne, 1-night trip

Expensive for plumbing issues

A cute little castle hotel tucked away in the highlands; however they really need to work on their plumbing. Toilets wouldn’t flush in room or lobby bathroom. Tub water pressure was so low it took 30+ minutes to fill. When we spoke to their maintenance person, the reasoning was because of too much use in the hotel at the same time. Doesn’t feel like they’re equipped to be full? Not a lot of property / grounds to walk around on. Expensive for having plumbing issues.
1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Only negative was the evening meal. Did not justify the price. Table service was excellent but the quality of the food was below par for the price. For example: a starter from the kid’s menu and a burger from the main menu for the same kid ended up costing £25 for the burger, due to how pricing works. Everything else about the hotel was lovely but next time we would go out to eat. Breakfast, on the other hand, was exceptional, especially the cooked breakfast. Tasty, healthy, well presented… We have to assume there is a different chef doing breakfasts.

The castle experience

Nicely located to visit both Inverness and the NC500. Very calm and good value if you fancy sleeping in a castle. As expected with this type of properties the temperature regulation in the shower was very fidgety and water temperature would raise by itself all the time. Room is very spacious.
