Place looked great, the rooms were lovely and spacious and the bed was comfortable. However, you look a bit closer and the whole place just looks a bit tired - the net curtains on the windows had tears in and had been “repaired” with a stapler, the window frames themselves were rotting and there were gaps around some edges of the glass where the putty was missing. The corner of the sink unit in the bathroom had worn off with the veneer missing and the fibreboard exposed. Plus general bits in the corridors like rusting radiators and walls needing a bit of paint.
Also was quite a challenge to find any staff at the front desk, had to wait a few mins upon arriving until someone appeared (no bell or anything). When we had a query later we had to wander around to find someone and there was just a box for keycards on checkout, no staff at all. The website also said there were complimentary bottles of water in the room type that we booked, but there weren’t, and they apparently didn’t have any, so we bought our own from a nearby supermarket.
Also they weren’t doing any breakfast “because the chef was on holiday”. Luckily there’s a Beefeater about 2 mins drive away the other side of the dual carriageway and they were great for breakfast.
The place was perfectly adequate for what we needed - just a place to sleep after a family event, but it needs a good renovation and better staffing. (Staff we interacted with were friendly and polite but might be better with more of them).
