I've been coming to Galway regularly for over 10 years, and at the beginning stayed in the Clayton quite often. First the good, which is that the rooms on the top floor are some of the nicest available, the seated area, large bath and walk-in shower, good bed, great housekeeping, all highly recommended. Some very minor maintenance issues, like Sky remote not working, shower door scraping on tiles, etc., but still fine for me.
However, I gave the restaurant one of the worst reviews I have ever given all those years ago, and I was apprehensive when, having worked late, I decided to give it another go. There was only one other couple in there when I entered at 7:30 pm, which is never a good sign. I thought I would order something safe, so chicken wings and loaded fries, with Eton mess to follow. It was quite underwhelming (as is customary with almost all hotel food in Ireland), and I was reaquainted with it in the most unpleasant way at 2:00 am. I implore you to eat out, there are so many great places to choose from in the town. Sorry to everyone who doesn't work in the kitchen.
