This hotel was in a wonderful location. It was a stone's throw away from the city center, but far enough away that you weren't disturbed by noise. The breakfast was good, the room spacious, clean and the shower was perfect. There was always coffee in the morning and be sure to stop by the restaurant for authentic Italian cuisine. About 20 minutes drive outside of Gubbio and up a mountain, the Castello provides a unique hotel stay. Our room was in a building inside the walls. It was quite large with a very roomy bathroom with both large tub and separate shower. Beams, stone walls and wooden shutters contributed to the castle atmosphere. This hotel is fantastic! The balcony view of the Tuscan landscape and the Basilica was incredible. The twin bed was adequate and fit the theme of staying at a former monastery. The staff was warm, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel has a chapel inside (it was a monastery) and that was an added treat. The main churches were easily accessible. I cannot imagine staying at a more beautiful place in Assisi than this hotel!

Castello Di Monterone is a small castle that has outfitted into an 11-12 room hotel. The rooms are small but comfortable with high quality bathrooms, windows, etc. There are lots of little alcoves, inside and out, to hole up in. Great view of Perugia from across the valley, and the city itself is only a few minutes away (although it's one of the more maze-like experiences to try to get into the city center.)
