What a gem in this magical city. We loved where it was located a walk to all the heart (cathedral and restaurants etc) but during the day when it’s so over run with tourists you’re not in the center of it. The beds were fabulous! Best sleep of the trip. The best part was the staff and breakfast. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. They didn’t even shame me when I had 3 cappuccinos at breakfast (they’re small!)

You cannot drive directly to the hotel. Parking is a short distance away and you must walk to the hotel on cobblestone streets with your luggage, but this is not too difficult and true of many places in central Matera.
Get the cave room for an adventurous stay it’s worth it. Beautiful, larger than expected with a really nice Tub. All the nooks and crannies in the room speak of its use for likely thousands of years.
Bovino is a sweet, little mountain town crowned by the castle at its highest point. Great panoramas of the valley below are visible throughout and especially, from the windows in our room. As you might imagine the rooms have high ceilings and lovely light filtered through gauzy curtains. The staff are amiably curious and ready to assist with whatever you need to make your stay as close to perfect as possible.
We could not have enjoyed our stay more.
From the moment of check in to our check out, the staff at Thymus were incredibly helpful. They provided a list of recommended restaurants and then offered to even make the reservations. We were able to enjoy two fabulous dinners.

I stayed on short notice at Casale di Maria and I couldn't have been happier with my choice. The room was very charming and unique - in one of the historic sassi (cave hewn into the rocks) but with all the modern amenities you could wish for.
I had parked a long way away but Walter, the owner, gave me a ride to my car and guided me to a parking spot near the house where I could park without getting a ticket till the next morning. Domenica, who manages the property day-to-day, stayed in online...

This is a unique property in the middle of antic city Matera. Beautiful views from the windows to die for, location, etc. Hotel is in excellent condition, furniture, room design, etc. Breakfast is very good. Great options for fine food in the area. You need to be prepare to walk a lot in the city of Matera with steps up and down including to and from hotel. If you can not walk - it is not for you. Parking (free or paid) is on the street within 10-15 min or so walking. Finding can be a problem....
This hotel was simply DREAMY! My "cave room" was on three small levels, and each was incredible. The luxurious bathroom, built into the cave on the first level was spacious and inviting, with a tub and a shower as well as a closet. On the mezzanine, was my bed, inviting, with fresh, crisp sheets. On the third level was a chase lounge, looking over magical Sassi. This was the first stop on my 3 weeks in Italy's Puglia region, and was a welcome retreat, as I caught up on rest and relaxed...
Beautiful room in a cave with independent entrance. Touristic but also quiet location. The access is a bit complicated if carrying bags. Great service and breakfast in the room. I would recommend to friends and family.

An absolutely amazing B and B!! They take care of every detail. Made our stay everything we had hoped for and more. We worked with the adult daughter who knows everything about the area and communicates very well in English. Would definitely go back and stay again! We are from the States and usually stay at only 5 star suite hotels back home.
