Downtown Reykjavik
Home to Iceland's national parliament and vibrant nightlife, Reykjavík City Center boasts landmarks like Tjörnin pond, Hallgrímskirkja, and lively Austurstræti and Bankastræti streets.

Vesturbær
Mostly residential with a touch of commercial activity at Grandi harbor, this district boasts the University of Iceland and the community-centered Vesturbæjarlaug swimming pool.

Hlíðar
Hlíðar gives you front-row tickets to real Reykjavik life without the tourist crowds. The towering Hallgrímskirkja church stands like a concrete rocket ship, making it impossible to get lost. Wind through colorful Nordic houses and apartment blocks to find the Einar Jónsson Museum's fascinating sculptures. The steep hillside streets make for thigh-burning walks but reward you with stunning city views. Cozy cafes serve hearty Icelandic comfort food at prices that won't make you wince. Guesthouses and apartment rentals offer budget-friendly alternatives to downtown's pricey hotels. Reykjavik's efficient bus system connects you to downtown attractions while the quiet residential atmosphere gives you a peaceful home base.

Laugardalur
Just east of Reykjavík's city center, Laugardalur offers various recreational facilities, including the main stadium. Known as "hot spring valley," it's perfect for travelers seeking leisure activities.

Háaleiti
Háaleiti lets you live like a local in this peaceful residential area of Reykjavik. Wander the quiet streets or explore the green spaces of Fossvogur Valley with its walking trails and open meadows. Kids play in neighborhood parks while the clean Nordic air refreshes your senses, all just a short trip from downtown attractions. Daily life revolves around small cafés serving simple Icelandic fare and local bakeries filling the air with fresh bread aromas. While shopping options are limited to convenience stores, Kringlan Shopping Mall offers retail therapy nearby. Renting a car is recommended, though bus service connects you to central Reykjavik's bustling harbor and nightlife.

Reykjavik and related destinations
Dip into the Blue Lagoon's milky waters where steam rises like nature's own spa treatment, then return to explore a capital that punches well above its weight. The Phallological Museum offers exactly what you think it does, with surprising scholarly dedication. Harpa Concert Hall shimmers like the Northern Lights frozen in architectural form. Whale watching tours depart regularly from the harbor, where you might spot minkes or humpbacks between bites of fresh seafood. Colorful corrugated buildings house quirky cafes perfect for warming up after exploring Hallgrímskirkja church's stark concrete beauty. In summer, take advantage of nearly endless daylight; in winter, the darkness brings those ethereal green lights dancing across the sky.

Exeter Hotel
"Stayed at the Urban Deluxe Twin Room and was upgraded to a corner room which was quiet and away from the main road. The room was very spacious and luxurious with all amenities provided. The only negative was the shower area had some mould on the tiles (perhaps require a bit more cleaning). The hotel is located only 3 mins walk to Bus Stop 4 Miðbakki which serves as a convenient and accessible departure point for day tours and airport pick-ups / drop-offs. It is also within 10-15 mins walking distance to the town centre and Rainbow Street. There is a restaurant at the hotel which we did not try and but did manage to get some good bagels and donuts from Deig Bakery located in the ground floor. I would totally recommend Exeter Hotel and if I return would definitely stay here again."
CityHub Reykjavik
"Served the purpose of a place to rest for the night before departing from the international airport the following morning."
Fosshotel Reykjavik
"They helped with cheaper parking options around the hotel. Room was clean and comfortable."
Hotel Reykjavík Grand
"Hotel was lovely as was the restaurant.!! Everything was clean and it offered a convenient pick up spot for various tours. Only problem I had was they placed me in a lower level room right next to construction. Luckily I was out of the room most of the day so it didn’t really bother me."
KEX Hotel and Hostel Reykjavik
"Location was great! Definitely walkable to a convenience store and some local spots. The curtain rod on the bed was barely holding on - might be worth a quick upgrade to put rods that hold up. The place was clean...the fridges were def in need of a cleaning. That was def more than a week or two of old food and they were stuffed to a point where it just didn’t look right. Staff were super friendly. Would recommend and stay here again."
Alva Hotel Brautarholt
"Lots of construction going on during the day for renovation. Easy to get into room and it was nice to have luggage storage available. The bed needs a new mattress as there was a definite worn/slumped section."
Center Hotels Arnarhvoll
"great breakfast restaurant with a fabulous view. staff were excellnt. room was great. locations by bus stop 5 perfect."
The Reykjavik EDITION
"Great room and wonderful staff."
Fosshotel Lind
"Staff was great, hotel was within walking distance to all downtown restaurants and attractions."
