.I arrived at Upachaya in a state of mental and physical exhaustion. This is a fabulous place to unwind and de-stress. I curled up on the porch for two weeks and spent most afternoons simply reading and/or writing. I enjoyed falling asleep listening to the tree frogs and the men fishing in the bay. The Reef House is in a quiet part of the island. We went for relaxation and diving. The first night we snorkeled at night in the ocean pool and saw octapus, shrimp, flounder, small eels, and huge urchins.
My older son wanted to fish, so they arranged a day of fishing and visiting a shallow area where nurse sharks and rays hang out, so we got to snorkel with them. We caught a bunch of tuna and they cooked it up for us for dinner. We went during the end of August, which is the slow time. ...
This was our second stay. Both times were wonderful. The staff is very attentive and friendly. We tried several things on the menu at the restaurant during our two week stay and found that everything is prepared with fresh ingredients and looks as good as it tastes. The restaurant staff filled our insulated cups and ice bag with ice every day.

The staff are very friendly, nice beach, nice view, very good food, they have a variety of activities in the resort, like horse-back ride, kayak, live music,fire show,garifuna dance and excellent location for divers
Great property, beautiful location. I would say that they would need to allow some form of partnership with a taxi company or private service for those who want to be out past 10pm when the shuttle stops. I love that the staff will book excursions for you and allow you to make the most of your experience. I do think there is room for an all inclusive for the guests. Although I still paid separately to try each of the restaurants, I think there should at least be an option.

Stayed for 11 nights & the location is perfect. Anything you need is within walking distance. Only negative was the “step down”, when exiting the toilet. I didn’t have the light on & crashed into door frame, first day. Bloody arm that needed a lot of neosporin & bandaids. Would definitely stay there again.
The hotel is very nice, right in front of the beach. It has a lot of treas and is quiet. Very convenient location, the kayaks are free to use for guest. I did have an incident were I was charged $8 more than it was supposed to, I told the manager, and she reimbursed me that money. Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and do recommended to other travelers.
The great combo of convenience to the dive shop -- at VERY affordable rates -- and very comfortable (luxurious!) accommodations, along with excellent service across the board and great food, Barefoot Cay is a total winner! At first I was skeptical because the hotel was rather new and there were no reviews posted whatsoever by when we booked around ending March. But it was a pleasant surprise when we got there start to finish. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our room was well kept and clean and I loved the fact that there were the "essential" elements in the bathroom like shampoo and soap.
