By sheer chance we ended up at the Three Cups - and it is a delightful family run traditional (as in 500 years old traditional) coaching inn. The food was fantastic, both at dinner time and breakfast. Very personal attention paid to everything. Beautiful gardens, with streams running through. The village is spectacular, with wonderful little shops, as well as the trout streams running right through.
The George Inn was an excellent choice for our first night in England, due to its proximity to Stonehenge and the reasonable cost. All staff were attentive and helpful. We enjoyed a late afternoon walk on the country lanes of Middle Wallop. I want to mention a few things that did not bother us but may matter to other potential guests:

Had a great stay at the Hare and the Hound. Great patio next to the restaurant to gather after a fun day and breakfast was really well put together. Room was cozy and comfy and the staff left a nice little surprise in the room.
Fantastic location in the heart of Salisbury! Beautifully renovated Old World Inn sits alongside the River Naader. Local kids were swimming in the river next to the property for hours and thoroughly enjoying themselves. Some seating out front along the river but for dining the outdoor seating is alongside the river but the river is not visible - but you can hear it. Very nice room with typical english charm. Not sure about the shower stall in the bedroom with clear glass walls! Little things like a hook to hang a towel, or something to place a second suitcase on (rather than the floor) would be a good idea. Breakfast selection was great. Nice bar area for cocktails. We did not stay for dinner so cannot comment there. Staff very friendly and professional. Plenty of parking.
