Top neighborhoods in Liberia

Los Cerros
Los Cerros gives you a front-row seat to authentic Costa Rican family life without the tourist price tag. This colorful residential neighborhood on Liberia's outskirts features bright turquoise and coral homes where roosters serve as your morning alarm clock. Church of La Ermita La Agonia stands as the main local landmark worth visiting. The mountain backdrop creates a peaceful atmosphere perfect for travelers seeking genuine cultural immersion. Family-run sodas serve traditional casado plates and fresh fruit drinks. Budget guesthouses and homestays offer chances to practice your Spanish with welcoming hosts. While public transportation is limited, renting a car provides the freedom to explore Guanacaste's stunning beaches just 30-45 minutes away.

El Capulín
El Capulín offers an authentic slice of Costa Rican life away from tourist crowds. This quiet residential neighborhood provides a peaceful home base for exploring Liberia and beyond. While the area itself has few attractions, you're just a short trip from Museo de Guanacaste, Liberia Parque Central, and the colorful Sabanero Statue that celebrates local cowboy culture. Family-run sodas serve delicious traditional meals at budget-friendly prices. Accommodations range from cozy guesthouses to vacation rentals, all offering genuine Tico hospitality. A rental car is recommended for beach trips and exploring the region, as public transportation is limited in this suburban setting.

Hotel Riu Guanacaste - All Inclusive
"Enjoyed our stay very much from staff, amenities, and food, always great! Convenient to other things to do as well."
Hotel Bosque del Mar, Playa Hermosa
"Great staff, beautiful pool. Incredible food in the restaurant. But the elevator is broken (and apparently has been for months). Looks like they have no plans to fix it, since we noticed the staff storing cleaning supplies in it. We had to move to a first floor room (from the Nyuri Penthouse Suite) when my husband got into an accident in Costa Rica and could no longer use the stairs. Very disappointing that the management company doesn't consider this a priority."
Hotel Del Aserradero
"It was a comfortable bed and relatively quiet. The photo was misleading as we thought all the doors opened to the outside, but in fact, they all opened to an inside corridor so we could hear people in the morning. Also, we didn't see that we needed to check in by 10 p.m. so it's good we called and found out and they were kind enough to wait for us as we had a late flight. Otherwise, everything was great."
Occidental Papagayo - Adults Only - All inclusive
"This property met every expectation I had. From friendly staff to beautiful views. My room was spacious and clean. Would most definitely visit this property again. Notable mentions to Rafael, and Eduar. They answered my minion and one questions with patience and professionalism"
Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo
"Very nice small resort. Everyone was friendly and helpful!"
Hotel Primavera
"Pre airport sleep stay. A/C worked well enough. No hot water, but the unheated water was refreshing and not too cold. Staff were great. Tight parking, but manageable. Centrally located."
Planet Hollywood Costa Rica by Royalton, An Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort
"Nice, clean resort. The staff very nice and helpful.Come back definitely.Recommend to all tourists"
Best Western El Sitio Hotel
"It's a nice place to spend the night while waiting for a flight. However, the food could have been much better. Example of this was the bland and large portion of food. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant."
Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort, Costa Rica, by Hyatt
"This hotel will ruin all other hotels for you. The staff was incredible, the grounds were immaculate, the room was amazing, the wildlife and beach on property were unreal. Seriously, if you stay here, there’s no going back to mediocre hotels. You’ve been warned. We’re 100% going back. My wife literally cried when we were leaving."
