"The location to Fuji Q Highland is perfect. It is a 5 minute walk to an entrance exclusive to hotel guest. Early entrance to park is another perk. Hotel is beautiful and clean. Very spacious rooms. Lots of amenities. Breakfast buffet was included with our stay. Buffet was very good. Staff was very friendly and spoke English well. When we were out exploring and couldn’t get an uber to pick us up, we called the hotel and they sent a taxi to come pick us up. Just exceptional service!"

The only amenity was the onsen bath, which had separate facilities for men and women, so we couldn’t enjoy it together as a family. "We stayed 1 night and throughly enjoyed our time. We wish we had stayed longer. We arrived at the property after spending the day exploring Hakone. We had taken the pirate ship across Lake Ashi and then took a bus to the stop right outside the ryokan. We were instructed to remove our shoes and don the provided slippers. The staff warmly greeted us and confirmed our onsen time which we had scheduled the day before. We booked ours for after dinner. We were led to our room which was a very clean traditional Japanese room with tatami. There was also a tv and a patio which was nice! Dinner was not included but it wasn’t too expensive, and it was delicious! I know some ryokan you eat in your room, but I liked that they had a separate dining room. The view outside was all forested so it made for a nice backdrop for our meals. The open air onsen was wonderful and was nice and hot. There are also showers for washing before you enter the onsen. There are no showers in the rooms so we just used the onsen shower during our time slot. The futons in the room were very comfortable and it was the best night of sleep I had on our entire trip. We woke to our amazing kaiseki breakfast ready in the dining room, which was very nutritious and gave us the energy to hike all day. In all we would 100% stay here again. We loved the whole experience and it felt like a true traveler’s inn. Bonus points for Ice, the adorable kitty manager!"

"The staff was absolutely fantastic and despite the limited amount of English wonderfully helpful and focused on making my stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The Retreat is showing it’s age and would benefit to have a light update on the rooms The quiet forest location makes it ideal for guests that appreciate a very quiet and relaxing stay."
