"This was my first Ryokan experience, and it was incredible. Shinkai used Lake Suwa as the inspiration for Tomorrow in Your Name. "Old Showa style minimalistic ryokan, but the room for 5 was spacepus (double room) and the tatami beds and beddings arw comfortable. Self-service to put the futon (which was no problem for us). Power plugs and Wifi were abundant. We were fine with steps but for eldery or disabled it may be a challenge. The hot spring bath was nice. "Easily the best place I stayed in whilst in Japan. It’s a ryokan and yet it has full 5 star hotel features. I chose a room with a private outdoor Onsen bath and kaiseki dinner option. Room was huge (75sq/m) with a separate bedroom, living room and sitting area with a wood burner. I started the fire and sat there for hours in between my private lovely hot onsen.
