Top neighborhoods in Augusta

Downtown Augusta
Downtown Augusta blends historic charm with riverfront beauty along the Savannah River. The 19th-century architecture of Broad Street and the Cotton Exchange building transport you back in time. Catch performances at the Miller Theater or Augusta Imperial Theatre, then stroll the Riverwalk for scenic views. The James Brown Arena and museums add cultural depth to your visit. Southern cuisine shines at local restaurants where pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes steal the show. Hotels range from historic boutique properties to modern riverfront accommodations. The walkable downtown layout makes exploring easy, with most attractions within six blocks of each other.

Summerville
Located northwest of downtown Augusta, Summerville boasts a historic district with sights like the Augusta Arsenal and Partridge Inn, a still-operating historic hotel.

West Augusta
West Augusta offers tree-lined streets and upscale charm without downtown's hustle. Golf enthusiasts flock to the area near Augusta National, while shoppers browse high-end retail at Augusta Exchange. Parks and country clubs provide peaceful green spaces for afternoon strolls or a quick game on manicured courses. The neighborhood serves up steakhouses and upscale chain restaurants perfect for post-golf celebrations. Hotels cater to discerning travelers with pools and premium amenities. A car is essential for exploring this suburban retreat, as public transit options are limited.

Lakemont
Lakemont offers Augusta visitors a peaceful retreat where Southern suburban charm meets outdoor recreation. The tree-lined streets with mid-century ranch homes create a genuine glimpse into everyday Augusta life. Lake Olmstead sits nearby, perfect for fishing or scenic walks when you need a break from exploring Augusta National Golf Club. The neighborhood has minimal dining options, so plan to venture out for meals. Most travelers stay in vacation rentals or bed-and-breakfasts, enjoying private yards and quiet evenings. A car is essential for getting around, as public transit is limited in this tranquil residential haven.

National Hills
National Hills offers a peaceful escape with tree-lined streets and traditional Southern homes just minutes from Augusta's excitement. During Masters Tournament week, the neighborhood buzzes with energy from nearby Augusta National Golf Club. The rest of the year, you'll enjoy quiet strolls under mature oak canopies while experiencing authentic suburban charm. Travelers should venture to nearby areas for dining options, as the neighborhood is primarily residential. Accommodations range from private home rentals to charming bed & breakfasts, though prices spike dramatically during golf season. Getting around requires a car, with limited public transit but easy access to Augusta's attractions.

Augusta and related destinations
Beyond the famous Masters Tournament, Augusta's Riverwalk offers a peaceful escape along the Savannah River where locals fish from wooden docks at sunset. The Augusta Museum of History celebrates native son James Brown with memorabilia that'll make you want to dance right there in the exhibit hall. Fort Gordon brings military precision to this otherwise leisurely town, while the revitalized downtown surprises with farm-to-table restaurants in historic buildings. The Imperial Theatre and Miller Theater showcase everything from symphony performances to indie bands in venues with remarkable acoustics. Even non-golfers appreciate Augusta National's legendary azaleas, though you'll need tournament tickets or a well-connected friend to see them up close.

"No refrigerator, no microwave, no breakfast unless charged an additional fee. So many changes that make you not want to return."

"Great stay for the price"
Hyatt House Augusta Downtown
"Had a good stay here. The hotel is in good shape overall. My room was clean, but not perfect. Some noticeable wear and tear that comes with use and age. There is a parking fee if you want to use the garage, otherwise you have to park on the street. Now, on to the best part of my stay. The breakfast is excellent! They had made to order omelets and plenty of other items to choose from. Even had salmon with all the toppings like capers and copped red onion. And, oh my, the grits were delicious. Just perfect! This was not your typical free hotel breakfast. Way better. If my travels ever take me back to Augusta, Georgia, I will be staying here again."

"Hidden gem right outside of Augusta."

"The pool was closed so we couldn’t swim but the lady at the front counter (Hope) was wonderful. Her customer service skills are outstanding. If we’re in the area again and need a room, we will be back."

"What a fantastic staff! Proactively helpful and ready to address any concerns I had, which is a huge relief being disabled in a wheelchair. When I was late for breakfast and it had closed, the staff person took care of me anyway so I could have toast and a couple of eggs. The bathroom and room for exceptionally clean. The whole property look really well taken care of. This is an operation which takes pride in itself."
