The location is GREAT on the main road in Appenzell. The staff is super friendly and helpful in suggestion things to do. The breakfast was very good as well.
The only to be aware of (which wasn't a negative for us) is the Church right across the street rings its bells until pretty late and again at 6:30 am. They are awesome bells, but very loud. This is a full service medical spa based on the Mayr fasting method, similar to Lanserhof and VivaMayr. Everything is impeccable, and we like the fact that it is in a city (although we did not go for fasting, so it might make this more difficult with all the restaurants around). A lot od dedication and attention to detail went in by the owner Mr. Buff. Highly recommended.
2nd time we've stayed at this hotel. Rooms are large and quiet. We stayed in the least expensive category room and it was just fine, king bed, large room and bathroom, and a window overlooking the inside courtyard. Breakfast was included as was wifi and both were excellent. Train station is across the street which is great if you are traveling by train, but because the station is small there's really no noise, congestion, or questionable areas. Beautiful hotel with very spacious rooms. Everything was clean. Really appreciated the coffee maker in the room after multiple hotels in Switzerland did not offer this. Very Decent breakfast as well
I stay here because it is close to where I work, not for its convenience to downtown, restaurants, etc. As far as business hotels go, this one is hard to beat. Super clean, super efficient, excellent and friendly staff, good food (the dinners are exceptionally good) and reasonably priced.
