Hotel Hecht is an excellent Appenzell hotel for travelers. We stayed three nights. Our room was recently updated and on the quiet back side of the building. Breakfast was included so we started each day with a good self serve continental breakfast. Because we were staying for three nights we were provided a “Appenzell Visitor Card”. It covered our local travel on train and bus, admission to museums and the Hoher Kasten cable car. The hotel manager, kitchen manager and all the staff were friendly, attentive and accommodating.

Our stay was wonderful. The room was clean and spacious. The sister hotel, Hotel Romantik Santis, was also excellent. The sauna is located offsite (not at Hecht) but was easy to reserve. Also, I highly recommend the restaurant at Santis. The food, wine menu, and service were outstanding.

Great Location in a Lovely Town

We would have rated this hotel a 4.5 -- it fell just short of 5 because of a few quirks. But the location is ideal for staying in Appenzell -- near the heart of town but just off the busiest streets. The staff were very helpful. The included breakfast was quite nice. Our room looked out onto a rooftop and a wall, with a peekaboo view of the lovely countryside, and getting to it required climbing a few stairs.

Had a very nice stay at Hecht. Very helpful staff. Only downside is that the hotel is in front of a church that rings bells every 15 min even at night. Breakfasts are really good! Location is amazing!! 4 mins away from train station.

Wonderful. Wonderful location to the train, town squares, restaurants and shopping. The staff were very kind and intuitive. They met all our needs. The breakfast was perfect for us and great coffee. Excellent, very helpful staff. A super room (we were upgraded) with sinks in the large bedroom and the WC. Up-to-date, but with beautiful wood joinery. Fine breakfast, with a gluten-free option. Elevator and library and a good location a few hundred yards from the main square. No restaurant, but there are many others nearby, including at their partner Hotel Romantic Santis on the main square. Has a same-day laundry service. Only drawback is lack of parking, but you can stop in front to load and unload, then park in the public parking.

Great hotel!

This was a really nice hotel. It was very clean and comfortable. Excellent location. Breakfast buffet was also very good. Our room was beautiful. It was directly across from the church. Be forewarned that the bells of the church chime throughout the day/night. One bell for 15 min after the hour, 2 bells on the 1/2 hour, three bells 45 minutes after the hour then on the hour. Ask for a room in the back. There was an issue with parking. One lot close to the hotel is one hour. The other lot closed after the weekend to set up for a celebration. Our car was towed. We paid $318 for the fine. The staff was polite, friendly and very helpful.
