Learn more about Lanai

Hulopoe Bay beckons with secluded beaches where spinner dolphins often play just offshore in crystal-clear waters. Four-wheel drive adventures lead to Keahiakawelo, where red rock formations create an otherworldly landscape locals call the Garden of the Gods. The Lanai Culture & Heritage Center reveals the island's fascinating transition from pineapple plantation to luxury retreat. Shipwreck Beach offers a photographer's dream with the rusting Liberty ship visible from shore. Golfers face the challenge of Manele Golf Course, where ocean views distract from every shot. The tiny downtown of Lanai City centers around Dole Park, where pine trees whisper stories of the island's plantation past. Bring binoculars to spot the rare native birds that thrive in this less-visited Hawaiian paradise.

Behold... Puu Pehe, known as “Sweetheart Rock”.

This is Lanai’s most notable landmark and the setting for one of Hawaii’s epic legends.
Story goes a hottie princess from Maui was "captured" by a young warrior from Lanai. He made her his wife and he was so smitten with her beauty and... apparently so insecure that he was afraid to let other men see her so kept her in a sea cave near the rock when he was away. One day the weather suddenly changes, the surf slams the area, and... yup, one less princess. The warrior rushed back to the cave, but it was too late, he climbed the steep rock where he buried her in a tomb and then overcome with grief leapt to his death.

Moral of story might be... um, don't abduct women and lock them in caves.
