Arrived earlier than posted check-in time. Hotel secured our baggage until room was ready. By US standards, the room was on the smaller side, but more than adequate. The amenities included a kettle for coffee and tea. The location right on Place Messena was an added bonus, being right in the heart of the old city. Convenient for restaurants, shopping, The Promenade des Anglais, beach, trams and more. We were in Nice for a sporting event and all the event sites were within a 10 minute walk. Couldn't have been better. Hotel offers a breakfast in the service area pictured in the hotel's posting on Hotels.com. Staff were very friendly and very helpful, even providing me with a congratulatory postcard for completing my event. A nice touch. There are literally hundreds of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Quality and service varies from fabulous to bland, reasonable to expensive, depending on your choice. There is always another restaurant next door to try! La Trattoria, Italian, was a favorite of ours. Book in advance if you want to eat after 7:00pm.

We had the balcony room. Only one in the hotel. It was pretty incredible to sit out there each night and watch the people. The location cant be beat!! The staff was always friendly. The room could definitely use some work. Door knobs falling off, almost no hot water and just the over all condition of the workmanship. This hotel has soooo much potential. Just needs a bit of TLC. Overall i would stay hear again for the price point.

A last minute choice due to change of travel plans, chose Hotel de La Mer because of its location in the most iconic square of Nice, easy to reach via tram from the airport & a very reasonable room rate. Have stayed in a dozen hotels in Nice over the years: this was a surprise: 95% a good surprise. Read to the end for the one small caveat. The location is outstanding. Literally two blocks from the Promenade des Anglais & pix by the hotel are accurate: you ARE right at the Apollo fountain. Windows well soundproofed, enjoy the fountain sounds with them open, dead quite when they're closed. The room was comfortablly laid out, nicely done, a bit small, bed & bedding were good, closet decent size, WC was modern & nice, good toiletries. A hot water kettle with teas & coffees in the room. We were welcomed by staff, given our room an hour early, and offered tea, coffee, a croissant. The caveat: entering the hotel was a bit off-putting. The main hall serves the entire building not just the two dozen rooms of this hotel which is on the first flight up from street level. Unfortunately the entry hall and staircase are dim. You'll have to carry luggage up the first flight: however both when on arrival & departure staff offered to help carry luggage. (On booking they ask for an arrival time to be ready to help!) Would I stay here again? Absolutely. Guessing 2/3 the rooms face Place Massena but not all. You DEF want a room facing the square: iconic view such an absolute pleasure.

Hotel in a very good location, close to everything restaurants, shopping mall, to the tram, to the Promenade. Room is clean. But not sound-proof, you can hear everything fr the other rooms. We asked for the AC to be opened but staff said they don’t operate it until next month. She suggested to open the window, which we did but you can smell foul odor coming from outside probably drainage(?). There was also a smell coming from the bathroom drain.

Firstly, this is a great place for access, its right in the main hub of the old town. So, you have access to loads of bars, restaurants. The tram stops are very close and easy to use. Some of the down sides are that its very noisy early in the morning with refuse lorries, street cleaners etc, even with the double-glazed windows. Another thing to bear in mind is that the rooms are small, functional but small, well room 6 anyway. Also the beds are solid, and if you have a bad back it might do you some good, if you don’t have a bad back you soon will have. The bathroom was fine, but the shower cubical was very small, if you moved to much or turned you it the shower mixer tap and it turned off. You can shower fine, but done move around to much in there, and trust me I am not large person by any means. The rooms were cleaned daily, with bed sheets changed and fresh towels replaced daily, so I cannot fault them for that. We didn’t try the breakfast as there is so many places around, we made of use of them and did some people watching at the same time. On the day of departure, we left our backs at reception, other people had done the same, upon collecting out bags some 6 hours later we went into the hotel and collected our bag, had I not put my hear around the door at reception they would have had no idea of someone taking a bag. So I don’t recommend leaving your bag as you cannot be sure if it has been tampered with or stolen. Advice is keep all your valuables with you at a
