6/10 Good

Food was disgusting. Apparently this is not the norm their usual chef was off and they had problems with the oven . We did receive a 20 % discount for the food. Old building which is lovely but can hear toilet flushing in another room . The room was clean and very small . The bed was hard.

Our stay at Fox and Hounds.

Wish we could have stayed longer but our short stay was fantastic. The food was superb and the pub was great as it was the night of the English woman’s Euro final. The surrounding area is lovely.

Really lovely pub to stay in. Very friendly staff and good food. Our room was spacious and clean. The bed was massive! My only quibble would be that the towels were a bit small and tired. Apart from that it was great, we would certainly stay again.

A lovely location on the North York Moors. The room was clean with a good range of teas/coffees in the room. The staff and the guests were all friendly so there was a lovely atmosphere in the bar and dining area. It is a dog friendly pub and although I don't have a dog it was nice to be amongst well behaved dogs. The food was delicious with a good range of specials. The Yorkshire breakfast is a great way to get set for a day on the moors.

Pleasant stay

Pleasant stay at this cosy comfortable inn situated in a lovely setting ideal for walking . Had a nice evening meal and cooked breakfast very good. Standard room had nice views of the countryside but was quite small. Bed was very comfortable. Only major criticism was the size of the shower cubicle which was very small and made it difficult washing.

A cosy country retreat!

We were made to feel very welcome here. The staff were lovely and excellent for providing information about the area. This was our first holiday with our dog and we were a bit nervous about it but the Fox and Hounds turned out to be a great spot for Jeff and he had no problem settling in. The room itself could do with some updating but as it is an old building and the bed was very comfortable, we weren't too fussed. It was a little noisy in the mornings as you could hear other guests and the staff moving around. We could eat our dinner and breakfast in the pub with the dog which was very handy. The dinner options were vast in terms of choice and very hearty but slightly overpriced so we only ate there on one of our evenings. Breakfasts we felt were much stronger although we would have liked a wider selection with the continental buffet and perhaps some more options with the cooked breakfasts. We had some difficulty with cleaning Jeff after our rather wet walks. There is no shelter outside so when we tried to dry Jeff before taking him in, it was near impossible. Overall, this is a lovely spot to explore the North Yorkshire countryside and we'd be happy to return when the weather improves!
