The place has a special ambiance, the cabin names are perfect for people with kids. It’s important to remember that these are like little cabins and not the type of room you might expect from the big hotel chains. Their price is very competitive for what you get. Unfortunately we had to leave before the restaurant opened in the morning. So I can’t comment on the food that was offered. If I’m ever in the Alpena area again I will try to book with them first.
Loved the room- large and the lighting was perfect. Loved the chaise lounge. Big windows. Perfect location downtown and right on the river. Very clean and super friendly staff. One of the best HI Expresses I've stayed at.
Was very impressed with the property - the rooms and pool area. It is an older hotel that has been updated. The updates are very nice and the hotel is very clean. The cleaning team does an amazing job! The one issue I identified - which would of been a bigger issue if I was traveling alone - was that the outside door into the facility didn't lock.
Beds were very comfortable but the pillows were so soft that I had to use 3. Outside picnic tables, a swing and corn hole available for use.
Everyone on staff went out of there way to make our stay memorable. Carol the breakfast cook was fantastic and the breakfast was amazing. Would certainly go back
I was looking for a decent, dog friendly hotel in the vicinity of Alpena. This hotel met all of my criteria and then some. It is setback off of the water some, but the property is literally right on the Lake Huron beach. Easy walk from the room to the beach. The Up North 23 restaurant is right next-door.
