We had a wonderful stay at this small, beautiful ryokan. They are in a quiet neighborhood next to a school so it was fun to see the kids on the playground when we came back in the afternoon. The ryokan is clean and very well maintained with a large cypress bathtub and a calming library with books, a go board, couches and even a small secluded area with a couch and sitting chair. The food was amazing. We had the steak dinner set and you can add extra steak for a small fee although, as it turns out, it wasn't necessary. Different delicious dishes (and many of them) every night beautifully presented. We were very full. Kudos to the chef. The service was outstanding from the receptionist to the hostess at breakfast/dinner. I was sad to leave and would absolutely stay again if I went back to Kyoto.

This is a beautiful property on a quiet street away from the bustle of Kyoto but only about a 5-7 minute walk from the train station. The chef and dining staff are amazing - the best food we had during our stay in Japan (and we ate amazing food everywhere we went). Our room was clean, decorated well, and comfortable. It was expectedly small, but the common lounge room with books, games, and refreshments made it easy to relax nonetheless. The staff were kind and hospitable, although we had to get used to the idea of feeling like they were hovering a bit and leaving our key with them when we went out. I chalk that up to a cultural difference and see it as something that enriched our stay rather than an inconvenience. Would definitely consider staying here again!

The hosts were charming and welcoming. However it’s not what I expected of a ryokan. I was thinking zen experience but the space was cluttered with guest amenities to the point there was little apace to put things. I would not recommend the first floor room towards the back. It had little natural light and felt like a basement. The facility needs updating. It feels a bit tired. The food was good but not memorable. Overall it was a disappointment. The cleanliness, amenities, and service were outstanding. The food was incredible—the best we had in Japan. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the common lounge with books and refreshments was a nice touch. The staff were extremely polite and attentive. Their hospitality made our stay very special. We loved the complimentary matcha service and the massage cushion in the library lounge. Overall, it’s the nicest hotel we’ve ever stayed at. We’ll definitely consider staying here again.
