I stayed at El Cauchero for two nights before heading into the jungle for a retreat. There are no English speakers on the staff, but I found them to be helpful and we were able to communicate effectively with Google translate. The room was clean, everything worked as it should. A couple of things to keep in mind depending on your physical abilities, there are no elevators and you may have to go up several flights of stairs, so be prepared. This is not a five-star hotel, and while everything was orderly, it is right at the riverfront and there are lots of bugs and it is somewhat loud because of its location. All that said, I would stay there again if I return to Iquitos. It’s directly across from the boat museum and within walking distance to many restaurants and the Plaza de Armas.
