We used the hotel for a bride and groom and some guests. We didn’t use the Duchess for the wedding ceremony, but the staff were very happy to make a special occasion for the happy couple. They also accommodated a large party of guests and non-guests for brunch the next day. Parking is easy and free. The hotel is modern and stylish, with lots of extra welcoming touches. We liked the mini books in the room and option of a rainfall or power shower. A really great place to stay.

A grand hotel in a very upmarket area. Close enough to the coast to enjoy all the resorts. Definitely the smartest hotel weve ever stayed in. Enjoyed a lovely weekend here. Would 100% stay again.

Excellent stay

Excellent service and food. Room was very nice and was clean and very well decorated. Staff friendly and helpful. On one of the busiest days, due to the Christmas market, the staff stayed attentive and we never had to wait long to be served.

We had a lovely stay here and would return again. Staff were friendly, polite and attentive. There was a good selection for breakfast and all the meals we had during our stay was excellent. Our room was great, with a nice cosy theme. The bed was too firm for me and my partner, though that is down to personal preference and no fault of the hotel. The hotel is in a quiet location in lovely surroundings with plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Highly recommend staying here if you want to explore Dorset.

A hotel we look forward to revisiting

On arrival we were advised that Unfortunately the hot water system had failed with this information it was our decision to stay. The hotel management and staff could not have been more helpful. The weather played a major factor in our terminating our stay a day early Again the management were very understanding we will return as everyone has left a memorable impression.

Room was far too hot & the air conditioning wasnt working. Woken at 5.30am by the night porter continually crashing empty bottles into the skip under our window. Very thoughtless.Bed very uncomfortable. But restaurant & food was first class, staff excellent.

Exceptionally well looked after by staff members, nothing was too much trouble. Food and service were excellent, well looked after, without being over the top. We were in room number 20, and we had views across the square. The room itself was clean and comfortable and a pleasure to stay in.

Not a pleasant stay

It's perfectly situated for a stay in Dorset to tour the County. We booked it, as it's a recent built 3* hotel (2016) and expected it to provide current standards for a modern building. It's clearly been Eco-friendly constructed and is particularly attractive both inside and out. However during our stay the warmer days (outside temperature 26'c) we experienced overnight temperatures of 28'c in our 4th floor Indulgence plus room, it was so uncomfortable we couldn't sleep. The air conditioning couldn't cool the room. It was set for 19'c but had no effect. Instructions next to the controls advised keeping the windows shut for best effect - this made it was worse, the temperature rose - we had to open the window and some cooler air dropped the temperature back to 28'c. Ambient temperature for hotel rooms is 21'c. We understand we can have heatwaves but in todays changing climate, buildings of this age should be constructed to adapt to this. After the 2nd sleepless night I approached the check-in desk and asked if anything could be done, basically the answer was they couldn't. We considered moving to another hotel but were unable to find a vacancy, so we endured our booked stay. Our last night the temperature had fallen to 25'c - with the window open - as a result of the night time outside temperature falling to 13.2'c (information obtained from a weather station 300mts from the hotel). Not a pleasant stay due to the overnight temperature in the room.

Parking was easy, lots of spaces and all free. Bar had a good feel to it, some cosy corners if preferred. Food was very good and breakfast was good, great choice

Pleasant overall.

Overall a pleasant stay. The beds were very comfy. Breakfast was a pleasant experience, very relaxed. Room cleanliness was good but some minor defects found with lighting and the shower. The communal areas should be cleaned more regularly or carefully. Some stickiness to door handles and surfaces.
