"We booked this trip very last minute and the hotel is quite impressive with a lot of history and not far from the main area of Buxton. We booked a Standard room instead of a Compact room however we were given was a very small Standard room (room 235) that even the staff called a weird room as it doesn't even appear on the signs. It's on a corner and would suit someone on their own rather than a couple and it could do with a lot less bulky furniture to make it feel less cramped. Breakfast was very good and set us up for the day. The set evening meal was good but the service was very slow, I think the staff were a bit overwhelmed. You can ask at reception for toilet paper, towels etc, and you need to request for your room to be cleaned the evening before you want it. The shower was warm but it's in desperate need of a revamp as there were stains on the lino flooring and the shower silicone had mold on them. The spa was good if a little tired in places, but we especially enjoyed the steam room. Parking is £5 a day which I think is a bit cheeky given the amount the room cost, and with no other parking options nearby. There was a wedding on one of the nights so we couldn't actually park that night even though we'd paid for it. It should be allocated parking and in all fairness the hotel did give us a refund but we had to ask for it. Overall it's a perfectly fine hotel but needs a good bit of investment to bring the rooms up to a better standard."

"Absolutely beautiful building, set in its own grounds. The building was stunning. The staff were lovely friendly and professional. I left my handbag in the restaurant - didn ’t discover I’d forgotten it until after we left the following morning. Returned safe and sound and fully intact! Evening meal at the restaurant was great, Excellent food. Brilliant service. The only things which let it down were the massive whole in the restaurant ceiling which had been temporarily sealed with plastic and wood. Our bin hadn’t been emptied in our hotel room. A few loose tiles in the bathroom. It just felt a little tired and unloved."

"I would have given it excellent as the hotel and room were lovely - clean, modern, spacious and comfortable, except we were kept awake all night with a constant banging and rattling from somewhere - room 408. The breakfast luckily we didn’t have to pay extra for was not great - it was cold, overcooked and half the dishes were empty - had to ask for juice and several items - for the look and design of the hotel which was lovely the breakfast really let it down - if we have had to pay extra we definitely would have complained !"
