I liked the hotel itself and the location, however this was all self service property. When you get there, you have to use a machine to check in, there’s literally no human individual to welcome you in, not one soul. They didn’t offer clean service, at all. We stayed two nights, and though the hotel room was very nice and clean the breakfast sucked!! They only offer coffee, pastries, fruit, cheese and yogurt. I felt like blah… wouldn’t book here again. We spent a week here for our anniversary and the setting is hard to beat. The resort is spotless, the lake and mountain views are postcard-perfect, and the staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. If you want quiet, clean air, and scenery, this delivers.
The tradeoff is isolation. Getting anywhere else in Switzerland means long drives on winding mountain roads, and the access road is single-lane with scheduled up/down windows, so you can’t come and go on a whim. Dining options...

This is an amazing hotel perfectly situated directly across from Grindelwald First. When I say directly across, I mean you can be at Grindelwald First in less than 5 mins. Less than that if you can walk a slight incline quickly.

Hotel Alpenhof if a beautiful, peaceful hotel in Grendelwald. We had a suite on the top floor with a balcony and a sweeping view of the mountains and green hillsides. The room was spacious and clean, with an handy minibar in case you want to have a beer on the nice deck, and tastefully decorated in Swiss style. During my time in Switzerland I stayed in 4 different hotels and my time at Hotel Spinne was the best! My view of the Eiger mountain was stunning, the infinity pool was a dream, the restaurant on site had delicious pizza and the staff went above and beyond. I accidentally left an item behind and Zuzana and the rest of the staff were able to securely get it back to me. I’m grateful for the experience and will certainly be back.
We had a wonderful three night stay with our 12-yr-old twin boys in this lovely hotel. The hotel is clean and stylish and the staff made us feel like family. We especially enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub after a long day of cable cars, funiculars, trains, ziplining, and hiking! The dining room is beautifully decorated and the food is wonderful. And to top it off, the manager's Golden Retriever was an added treat!
