The room was huge with lovely woodwork and a marble bathroom (the fixtures were top-notch with a huge tub, huge shower, double sink, and towel warmer). We had an amazing stay from start to finish. Ian gave us a tour if the castle along with a history. The rooms were cozy, the bed was very comfortable. The owners even gave us a ride to the tram when we were unable to find a taxi. Sue and Ian are a friendly helpful couple.

The only “con” is parking for the hotel, which is about a 15 min walk away, so can be challenging if driving.
Driving up to the hotel I instantly fell in love with this place. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is wonderful. We were arriving late and the hotel arranged for us to have sandwiches waiting which was perfect. Peebles is adorable town nearby and recommend a visit. I highly recommend this beautiful hotel!
Dalhousie Castle is the ideal place if you're looking to stay in a castle in the Edinburgh area. It's about a 20 minute taxi ride from the city center which is just far enough to be out in the peaceful Scottish countryside. The castle itself is absolutely beautiful, and sits on grounds that are equally so, with archery, falconry, and several great walking paths.

The Scholar is located on the campus of the University of Edinburgh. It was in a cute building with pretty landscaping to walk through. The bus is a five minute walk from the door and takes you anywhere you need to go in town for a few dollars. The hotel was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom had everything you need including a heated towel rack. I made hot chocolate in the room with the provided electric kettle. Nice people, nice breakfast - just nice! Not a central location - about a 20 minute walk to the Royal Mile - but we prefer the quiet to the noise of the more touristy areas and it's a nice walk. Definitely recommend.
This is a wonderful hotel. We will definitely stay here on future trips. The location is ideal and the employees so responsive. Then beds were super comfortable, I just wish they offered a top sheet in addition to the duvet for the weird Americans that are used to that. I'm sure we could have asked for one. Check in was smooth. No lift but successful in lugging 30+kg. suitcase up & down 3 flights of stairs. Room was impeccably clean. Room safe was difficult to access due to its position on floor of closet and tendency to entrap tiny objects in door which forced me to call for help.
