Top neighborhoods in Topanga

Fernwood

Fernwood invites you to escape the city without leaving civilization behind. This secluded Topanga Canyon gem blends bohemian spirit with natural splendor, offering hiking trails that wind through the Santa Monica Mountains. Creative souls gather at the rustic General Store for organic coffee while nearby galleries showcase local art in weathered wooden buildings. Dining options favor health-conscious, farm-to-table fare that closes early with the setting sun. Accommodation means charming vacation rentals nestled among oak trees rather than cookie-cutter hotels. Getting around requires wheels—the winding canyon roads connect to Pacific Coast Highway, but the journey through nature is half the fun.

Topanga Oaks

Escape to Topanga Oaks, where rustic homes hide among ancient oak trees in the Santa Monica Mountains. This peaceful residential enclave offers a true retreat from urban Los Angeles with direct access to Topanga State Park's scenic hiking trails. Nature lovers can spend days exploring winding paths while enjoying the sounds of birdsong and scents of sage. Getting around requires a vehicle due to the mountainous terrain and lack of sidewalks. Accommodations are primarily vacation rentals with stunning deck views, though you'll need to venture to nearby Topanga village or Malibu for dining and shopping options. The trade-off for this seclusion is authentic mountain living with exceptional privacy.

Encina

Encina invites you to escape into Topanga Canyon's artistic soul. This secluded neighborhood in the Santa Monica Mountains offers hiking trails right outside your door. Creative spirits and nature lovers feel right at home among the eclectic mix of rustic cabins and modern glass houses tucked between oak trees. You'll need wheels to navigate the winding mountain roads since public transit is limited. When hunger strikes, drive to central Topanga village or Malibu for dining options. Most visitors stay in unique vacation rentals that showcase the area's bohemian character and architectural creativity.

Sylvia Park

Sylvia Park invites you to lose yourself in the Santa Monica Mountains where bohemian vibes meet unspoiled nature. Hiking trails wind through Topanga State Park's oak-studded landscape, while scattered art studios showcase local creativity. The rustic charm of wooden homes tucked among chaparral creates a retreat that feels worlds away from LA's urban pulse. Getting around requires wheels—the winding canyon roads aren't served well by public transit. Accommodations lean toward vacation rentals with artistic touches and mountain views. When hunger strikes, you'll need to venture to nearby Topanga village for dining options that embrace locally-sourced ingredients.

Old Topanga

Old Topanga's winding mountain roads lead to a hidden artistic haven where rustic cabins blend seamlessly with oak-studded landscapes. This free-spirited community offers a peaceful escape from Los Angeles with hiking trails that weave through Topanga State Park and the Santa Monica Mountains. Local art galleries showcase the neighborhood's creative energy while the historic Community House hosts events that capture its bohemian soul. The dining scene centers around charming spots like the creek-side Inn of the Seventh Ray where fairy lights twinkle among the trees. Boutique shops selling crystals and handmade jewelry dot the area. With minimal public transit, having a car is essential for exploring this secluded mountain retreat with its distinctive counterculture vibe.

Learn more about Topanga

Escape the urban sprawl to a bohemian mountain hideaway where artists and nature lovers have carved out an alternative lifestyle. Hike through Topanga State Park's trails for Pacific Ocean panoramas. The open-air Theatricum Botanicum stages Shakespeare in a magical woodland setting. Canyon roads wind past eclectic homes, funky cafes, and art galleries showcasing local talent. Tuna Canyon Beach offers a quieter alternative to crowded coastal spots. The community's creative spirit remains intact despite proximity to Los Angeles, with farmers markets and impromptu music sessions. Come for the hiking trails but stay for the conversations with painters, musicians, and writers who've chosen mountains over mainstream.

Hotel Burbank

Hotel Burbank

8/10 Good
"Decent, reasonably priced and conveniently located hotel in Burbank. Twin highrise buildings, with dated architecture, but clean and well maintained. Very spacious living space, with separate bedroom and living rooms, each a good size. The only negative was pronounced noise coming from the nearby I5 freeway, even though our room was on the 17th floor. Hotel parking is $30 per night, but we found street parking about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Note that some streets dont allow parking from 3am to 5am, which makes overnight parking not possible on those streets."

10/10 Excellent
"The rooms were lovely. Hotel pool was super clean and heated. It was extremely relaxing and fun. Staff was helpful from parking to check in and beyond. The only downside is the cost of parking , which even next door is 25 bucks for the day but if you park for just a few hours it is 3 bucks an hour so we checked in and unpacked and relaxed only to leve and need to pay 20 bucks. If you had a store validate parking it was less. But it was too late for us as we had plans to go to Griffith observatory."
