Top landmarks in Eastsound

Turtleback Mountain is a wilderness-preservation success story. Recently the target of a development effort on Orcas Island, a popular weekend destination for people from Seattle, it was saved from that fate largely by the efforts of one man and his organization, Tim Seifert, executive director of the San Juan Preservation Trust. Thanks to their work, the mountain is now a wilderness area, in perpetuity. As a bonus, a network of trails is now available to allow hikers and sight-seers a chance to explore the mountain. The trails are beautiful and serene and not nearly as crowded as those on the more popular Mount Constitution, which sits on the other side of the island. There aren't many open viewpoints, but the forest scenery is just fantastic.

Turtleback Mountain

If you want to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh mountain air, head out to Turtleback Mountain for a bird's-eye view of Eastsound. Why not take a stroll along the port and watch the sunset while you're here? It's also good for whale watching, as well as fun activities like kayaking.

For a peaceful, relaxing vacation, the San Juan Islands are an excellent place to visit. They are located between the northern coast of Washington and the city of Victoria, Canada. Lynn and I stayed on Orcas Island and while driving back to our rental, stoped at the beach in the town of Eastsound to take pictures of the sunset over the bay. These two were swimming around. #Nature #Trovember

"Everything was just right. Polite employees, quick response time on requesting backed up tub drain, very clean and comfortable room and good breakfast, one of the better Continental breakfasts in town. It was served before 7:00 a.m. and all of the workers were upbeat and pleasant. Will definitely stay here again for our Mount Baker trips"
