Mono Lake's alien-looking tufa towers rise from alkaline waters like limestone skyscrapers built by nature. Grab breakfast at Nicely's Restaurant before heading to South Tufa for sunrise photos when the formations glow golden. Mono Cone's legendary soft-serve provides sweet relief after hiking nearby Lundy Lake's trails. The Mono Basin Visitor Center offers fascinating exhibits on the lake's ecological importance and near-death experience. In summer, Yosemite's eastern entrance beckons just up the dramatic Tioga Pass Road. Come winter, the town's 217 residents reclaim their slice of Sierra solitude when snow closes the mountain passes.

"Friendly staff, probably the busiest I have seen the hotel during this visit which is not surprising considering the great snow from the recent storms. Unfortunately the renovations are still slowly progressing, which meant no pool or hot tub access, really wish they were able to finish that by now. The steam room and sauna were available however the sauna did not seem to be working properly. The steam room worked well after letting it warm up for about 20 minutes. Overall another nice visit and still one of my favorite places to stay for short snowboard trips. Great value for the price and close proximity to the mountain."
