My daughter and I had a luscious three days at the Fairmont Tazi Palace. The staff were incredibly kind and gentile and the service was extraordinary. We particularly enjoyed the spa, the breakfast, and the pottery classes.
But all of the little details like flowers and cookies in the room, the kind gestures, made the whole experience memorable. This was a great way to end a 10 day excursion in Morocco before heading home.
Could Matisse be wrong? He stayed at this hotel, one of the oldest in North Africa, and painted the view from his room. You can still enjoy it, as the room has been preserved as a mini-museum. The hotel is perfectly located, close to the medina and just a short walk to the kasbah. The staff could not be more helpful. The decor and staff are wonderful. It is also in a great location. The breakfast is not as good as it used to be, however. It used to be in the main dining room and included a lively scrambled egg dish. Now only hard- boiled egg plus a lot of bread and some fruit. So please make breakfast better.
Plus room number 4 is quite noisy. I would choose another for sure.

This was our first visit to Morocco and we wanted to be in the medina. We loved this hotel! The staff was very friendly and gave excellent recommendations. Breakfast was fantastic; we ate once on the rooftop terrace and once on the floor underneath. We recommend getting to breakfast right when it starts and not sitting on the rooftop—it gets a little hot and the seagulls can be a nuisance. My mother and I arrived late at Dar Rif and were welcomed by Fouzia, she made the experience of checking-in after a long day a breeze. She helped us to our room and served us tea, making sure we were taken care of the whole time. We only stayed one night due to travel, but we will definitely be back for a longer stay in Tangier!
