This is one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever stayed. The room was very large with a beautiful patio overlooking Lake Como. The breakfast was large and amazing serving foods from their own private gardens. Mary and her staff are outstanding and I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Don’t miss a chance to stay here! Our room - in the annex - was lovely and squeaky clean...and OMG THE VIEW! We enjoyed the pool and breakfast was delicious. If we return to Menaggio, we will stay at the Hotel Royal.
The property, rooms and staff were all amazing. The family that owns the hotel are very hospitable and welcoming. We had a lovely evening chatting with them about a local festival l. It was very memorable.
However, if you did not rent a car buyer beware that it is a long and steep climb/walk to the hotel from any bus stops or ferries. And Ubers/taxis are hard to come by. Other than that the walk itself is beautiful just a little bit difficult.

The Lugano Dante hotel is a great hotel, the location can't be beaten, steps from the funicular and right by the city center, we walked everywhere. We had a very pleasant stay here while en route from France to Italy. The hotel was extremely convenient to the train station, and, even though we arrived after the front desk had closed, we easily arranged to have the keys left for us in a lock box. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we found Lugano utterly charming and scenic. The room is small by American standards, but spacious relative to what you would expect to find in larger European cities. I'd gladly recommend it to rail travels...
