To enter the Hotel Excelsior Splendide is to experience the gently fading grandeur of another age. Yes, we had a 'room with a view' of the lake, with the ferries and hydrofoils, the passeggiata, the sun setting over the early 20th Century and George Bloody Clooney's villa somewhere over there.
