Historic Center
Bologna's Historic Center dazzles with terracotta buildings and medieval towers. Wander under porticoed walkways past Europe's oldest university and the iconic Two Towers. The Gothic Basilica di San Petronio dominates Piazza Maggiore, where locals create a lively atmosphere. Food markets fill the air with scents of mortadella and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Pedestrian-friendly streets make exploring a breeze, with most attractions within a 15-minute walk. Traditional osterias serve handmade tortellini alongside modern bistros, while artisan workshops sell leather goods under medieval porticoes. Boutique hotels in converted palazzos offer authentic stays with frescoed ceilings and intimate courtyards.
Santo Stefano
Santo Stefano's medieval towers and Renaissance palaces create a living history lesson under Bologna's signature porticoes. Wander cobblestone streets to discover the fascinating Seven Churches complex or step into the oldest university in the Western world. The neighborhood's museums and galleries showcase centuries of Italian art while pedestrian-only zones invite unhurried exploration. Local osterie serve handmade tortellini and authentic ragù Bolognese within walking distance of boutique hotels housed in historic palazzos. Getting around is a breeze with excellent walkability and frequent buses connecting to central Bologna every 10-15 minutes. The area's university atmosphere keeps the vibe youthful and culturally rich.

Navile
Navile gives you Bologna without the tourist playbook. This historic neighborhood mixes authentic Italian vibes with cultural diversity that feels refreshingly real. Museums like Museo del Patrimonio Industriale and the Memory of Ustica offer fascinating glimpses into local history. The Manifattura delle Arti cultural complex showcases galleries and creative venues in beautifully repurposed industrial buildings. Traditional osterie serving Emilian specialties sit alongside international eateries reflecting the area's diverse communities. Accommodations range from charming B&Bs to apartment rentals that let you live like a local. The efficient bus network connects you easily to central Bologna, while tree-lined streets and canal paths make exploring on foot a pleasure.

San Donato
San Donato gives you a slice of authentic Bolognese life without tourist crowds cramping your style. The EuropAuditorium Theater hosts shows worth catching, while university facilities bring youthful energy to this residential neighborhood. BolognaFiere exhibition center offers a glimpse into the city's business side when events are happening. Student-friendly trattorias serve up delicious Bolognese cuisine at prices that won't make your wallet weep. Stay in budget-friendly hotels or apartment rentals for a genuine local experience. The Bologna Centrale station at the neighborhood's edge makes zipping into the historic center quick and painless.

Saragozza-Porto welcomes you with elegant residential streets and a dash of medieval magic. Follow the world's longest porticoed walkway from the historic Porta Saragozza gate toward the hillside Sanctuary of San Luca. Villa Spada's gardens provide a peaceful escape, while ancient city walls tell Bologna's defensive story through weathered stone and arched passages. Local osterie serve up authentic Bolognese cuisine away from the tourist crowds. Boutique B&Bs in historic buildings offer charming places to stay, with warm ochre facades and architectural details. Learn more about Bologna
Beneath medieval towers that lean like tipsy professors, Bologna's terracotta skyline glows amber at sunset. The Piazza Maggiore buzzes with students from the world's oldest university, debating philosophy over plates of perfect tortellini. Climb the precarious wooden stairs of Torre Asinelli for views that explain why they call this 'La Rossa.' The city unfolds beneath 40 kilometers of porticoes – now UNESCO-listed – where locals have strolled protected from rain since the Middle Ages. In the Quadrilatero market, vendors offer mortadella with the reverence others reserve for fine art. Don't miss the unfinished façade of San Petronio Basilica or Neptune's fountain, where the sea god's proportions were strategically reduced to avoid offending papal sensibilities.

Royal Hotel Carlton
"The room was extremely nice and roomy. Balcony with a nice view. Staff were efficient and professional. The breakfast was excellent."
Starhotels Excelsior
"Absolutely great location right across from station. Still, close to city center and all the major sights. Wish we had more time there and that we handt been there during ferragosto."
Hotel Internazionale
"Great location!"
Elizabeth Lifestyle Hotel
"Great place- modern and well designed. Breakfast was yummy with a comfy seating corner. Only suggestion would be if the property could upgrade their pillows- the bed was quite comfy for a good night sleep. Thank you!"
Art Hotel Commercianti
"The Art Hotel was very nice, and lived up to its name, with beautiful pieces of art attractively displayed throughout. I would give in 4.5, and not a 5, only because the brewed coffee in the dining room was terrible, and things that should have been hot, were not. That included the scrambled eggs, bacon, side vegetables, and aforementioned coffee and hot water. It was like the food warmers and hot pots were not ever turned on. We were there 4 nights, and it was the same each morning. Other than that, food was excellent, and location couldn't be beat."
Living Place Hotel
"Great room, great breakfast, huge pool that was really well maintained (but the hotel should consider having a separate section for kids). Friendly and helpful staff. On the 15th of August the hotel offered by the pool free sangria, ice cream and water melon (all top quality). There was a huge mall 5 mins walking distance, which was fantastic. Easy access to city centre by the 89 bus. A great experience"
Hotel Bologna Airport
"It is really clean and lovely hotel with helpful staff. However, the reason we stayed there was for a shuttle to the airport but when we checked in we were told that the shuttles were full. I appreciate this but in the morning we saw one shuttle coming but another was just parked. If it is a touristy time, it may be worth rethinking another driver during busier periods. Also, the food was inconsistent. The lasagna had in the bar hadn't been defrosted enough or microwaved long enough. The food in the restaurant was a mix. Prices were such that the food should be consistently good. Just a suggestion but you have the Ducati museum right next to you. It may be worth working a deal with them and shuttle transportation there as I think it is a big attraction. Overall, the hotel is nice and clean with friendly staff."
Hotel Palace Bologna Centro
"Very quirky suite with lovely paintings adorning the walls. Floors were a bit creaky in that you could hear people upstairs, but, you get used to it. Ideal location as only a 5 minute stroll from the Piazza Majiore and all the adjacent bars and restaurants."
