Top neighborhoods in Versailles

Saint-Louis
Step into royal history in Saint-Louis, where the magnificent Palace of Versailles commands your attention with its golden gates and baroque splendor. Explore the dazzling Hall of Mirrors, stroll through geometric gardens with ornamental fountains, or discover Marie Antoinette's private estate. The neighborhood's cobblestone streets and historic architecture transport you to the glory days of French monarchy. Upscale French restaurants dot the area, though most close early by 9 PM. While public transit is limited, the grounds are highly walkable—just wear comfortable shoes. Boutique hotels in converted historic buildings offer elegant lodging options, though many visitors choose to make day trips from Paris via the 45-minute RER C train.

Notre-Dame
Wander through the elegant Notre-Dame neighborhood, where the magnificent Palace of Versailles reigns supreme. The Hall of Mirrors gleams with sunlight while meticulously manicured gardens stretch beyond your imagination. Take a peaceful rowboat ride on the Grand Canal or discover Marie Antoinette's private world at the charming Trianon palaces. French cuisine dominates local dining, with upscale restaurants serving traditional fare in historic settings. Most attractions require walking, so comfortable shoes are essential when exploring the vast palace grounds. The RER C train connects you to Paris in just 45 minutes, making this royal enclave surprisingly accessible.

Chantiers
Chantiers combines royal history with everyday French charm, all a short walk from Versailles Palace. The neighborhood centers around its bustling train station, with tree-lined streets showcasing classic Haussmannian architecture. Explore nearby treasures like the Palace gardens, Parc du Domaine de Madame Elisabeth, and Cathedrale Saint Louis before returning to this peaceful residential area. Traditional French bistros serve classic dishes like coq au vin alongside local boulangeries offering fresh morning pastries. Small family-run hotels and B&Bs provide authentic accommodations with continental breakfast. Getting around is simple with frequent trains to Paris and well-maintained sidewalks perfect for evening strolls.

Clagny Glatigny
Clagny Glatigny offers a quiet escape from tourist-packed central Versailles, where elegant limestone buildings and wrought-iron balconies line tree-canopied streets. Morning bakery aromas and distant church bells create a distinctly French suburban atmosphere. You'll need to venture into central Versailles for attractions like the Palace of Versailles and Musée Lambinet. The neighborhood has sparse dining options with a few traditional bistros and cafés that typically close early evening. Accommodations range from vacation rentals in converted residential properties to small family-run bed & breakfasts. Limited public transit means a car rental or taxi is recommended for exploring beyond the peaceful residential streets.

Porchefontaine
In the south-east of Versailles, this neighborhood boasts a sports complex and a green space enveloped by Versailles, Satory, and Meudon woods.

Learn more about Versailles
Beyond the opulent Palace of Versailles with its legendary Hall of Mirrors lies a city that once functioned as France's royal capital. The palace gardens offer theatrical fountain shows where water dances to classical music among meticulously trimmed hedges. Escape the crowds at Marie Antoinette's private retreat, the Petit Trianon, where she played at being a simple farm girl. The Grand Trianon's pink marble pavilion showcases Louis XIV's more intimate side. The royal stables, Grandes & Petites Ecuries, now house the National Equestrian Academy where riders perform classical dressage. After touring royal splendors, find a café in the old town where locals discuss politics with the same passion their ancestors showed during the revolution.

Pullman Paris Montparnasse Hotel
"Our "family" room was a good size (3 people for this trip, but could fit 4). The bedding and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom is unusual in that it has two entries, one of which is a curtain that is semi-transparent and faces the glass shower... The glass shower also has one side partially open, so you'll need to stand right in the corner to avoid soaking the floor. The room fridge included bottled water, 2 sparkling and 2 regular, in large glass bottles! We filled our reusable water bottles with the regular water and ice from the ice machine on our floor for day trips and enjoyed the sparkling water in room at the end of a long day. The hotel was located just a 5 minute walk from Gare Monparnasse, shops and restaurants, making it easy to get around Paris. The staff were all helpful and front desk was also accessible via WhatsApp! We were able to store our luggage securely when we arrived earlier than expected. I liked how we could tap our room keys on the elevator controls to automatically and easily get one of many elevators straight to our floor. One downside: we didn't try the Umami breakfast buffet, but had planned to visit the "Grab + Go" counter to pick something up before a couple of early morning departures for a timed entry. Unfortunately they failed to open at 7am that Saturday as posted in their hours, and after waiting 20 minutes we had to scramble to go elsewhere to find breakfast before heading to our destination. Overall an excellent stay!"
Grand Hotel Leveque
"Clean room, staff were really helpful, air conditioned and the location is safe and near any necessity stores and close enough walking distance to the Eiffel Tower as well. My sister and I had a great time staying here for a week."
L’Hôtel du Collectionneur Paris
"The hotel was beautiful and clean. I hated it that it was not mentioned that the pool was not available to use only by appointment and also an extra charge for the hour."
ibis Paris Tour Eiffel Cambronne 15ème
"Staff in the restaurant and bar area were super friendly and helpful."
H4 Wyndham Paris Pleyel

Aparthotel Adagio Paris Centre Tour Eiffel
"Checked in online, as is the thing now. Got to hotel early. Room wasn't ready. That's ok, we were early. Told it would be ready by 3pm. The guy at 3pm seemed lost. 2 others helped, and we got our room. Close to Eiffel Tower, metro, monoprix(shop), and cafes. Definitely recommend. Only downside was laundry service not working for our stay."
