The Riverwalk downtown had a lot of trash along the path and was somewhat overgrown with weeds and tall grass. Not very well maintained. The rest of downtown was clean and I felt safe just walking around.

The river front had a street fair when we were there. It was so nice to join the fun and relax on the river front and watch the bands play.

Charleston is a nice river city that is walkable and seems safe. We've never had an issue in Charleston. There's plenty of restaurants too. Great stop over when heading south!

The locals are very friendly for the most part. There wasn't a lot to do in the immediate area but we did find a casino about 30 minutes away. I would definitely come back when it gets warmer to check out some of the scenic locations.

I've worked in Charleston in the past. A lot of homeless people and very suspicious looking people. I would recommend carrying protection of some sort especially if your a woman
