Learn more about El Portal
At the western gateway to Yosemite, this tiny mountain community offers front-row access to natural wonders without the park's crowds. The rushing Merced River provides a soundtrack for morning coffee at El Portal Market before heading into the park. Grab hiking advice from locals who casually mention Half Dome as if discussing a neighborhood stroll. Summer evenings find residents cooling off in swimming holes that tourists rarely discover. The lack of resort amenities is precisely the point - this is where park employees and climbers gather to trade stories over beers. For the best experience, book a riverside cabin and fall asleep to the sound of water tumbling over ancient granite.

Tenaya at Yosemite
8/10 Good
"Our family had the best time at Tenaya Lodge which had so much to offer onsite! After our day exploring Yosemite, we made sure to use the amenities especially the pools & winding down with smores each night. The kids especially enjoyed the leisure activities including archery!"
Curry Village
10/10 Excellent
"We had a great weekend stay at Camp Curry in Yosemite! The location is absolutely beautiful and being surrounded by the scenery and nature made the experience feel really special. It was so convenient to be close to the main Yosemite Valley attractions, trails, and beautiful views. We would love to come back again!"
Evergreen Lodge Yosemite
10/10 Excellent
"We love our stay at the Evergreen Lodge. Grounds are nice. Cabins are cozy. Staff is helpful. Restaurant was nice as well. Did not use pool or hot tub but both looked nice."
Cedar Lodge
8/10 Good
"Location, Location, Location It is located near the east entrance of Yosemite National Park. It's also located across the street from a wonderful creek/swimming hole. It was clean and looked well taken care of. - Trying to get clean towels was a challenge. Since they have two pools and a swimming hole across the street, they should offer some beach towels or double regular towels. - The bottom of the bathtub was SLICK. It has no anti-slip anything. The soap dispenser in the tub was empty. I slipped and fell hard (I've never fallen in my life). Thank God I didn't break anything. I did tell the front desk. They didn't seem concerned at all. I worry about any elderly that rent a room and fall. They need to have some anti-slip stuff in their tubs. Overall, we had a good experience and enjoyed visiting Yosemite."
Yosemite View Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"This hotel has a great location, just outside the park with steep mountains on either side that make you feel like you are still in the park. It's beside the Merced river providing great views and calm sounds. There are multiple pools, pizza shop, restaurant, store, play area and gathering areas along the river. Oh, and a nice game room where families gather in the evenings that was very special. The rooms have a kitchenette and fireplace. The bath has a jacuzzi tub that we didn't use but some might. One thing about Yosemite is that you should plan your meals especially if budget conscious. Shop on the way for staples you can have for lunch and breakfast at the hotel and in the park. Not that the restaurants are extremely expensive but given the remoteness they need to charge a premium. Imagine suppliers in a suburba area can deliver to many locations in one trip all within 20 or 30 miles but here they deliver to one location that is 40 or more miles away. They need to charge more to make up forit. All in all great for families and couples."

"Just like going to camp, bravo!!"
Quality Inn Yosemite Valley Gateway
10/10 Excellent
"We had everything we needed and it was enough. The location was quite convenient with walking distance to the the restaurants. The hotel room was clean, but it needs to be updated. Didn't like to have a microwave ocupying the desk space while using laptop."
The Monarch Inn
8/10 Good
"$100 deposit at check in was surprising. The desk clerk in the morning had to go up and check our room before we got our deposit back. It felt very odd."
Red Bud Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"The property was very nice and clean. The employees took care of us. I had a family member that had hurt themselves prior to our vacation trip and was unable maneuver stairs. The hotel employees were able to get us a nice downstairs room. Yes I would recommend them.!"
