Learn more about Colebrook

Fly fishing the Connecticut River offers a perfect excuse to stand knee-deep in rushing water while pretending to be productive. Beaver Brook Falls Natural Area rewards minimal hiking effort with dramatic cascades that never make it onto postcards. Winter transforms Colebrook into a snowmobiler's paradise, with trails seemingly reaching the North Pole. Dixville Notch State Park delivers cliff views worth the climb, while Table Rock Trail provides vistas that make smartphone cameras seem inadequate. The Poore Family Homestead Historic Farm Museum offers a glimpse into hardscrabble New England life that makes modern complaints seem trivial. Local diners serve portions that assume you've been chopping wood since dawn – and after a day outdoors here, you might wish you had been.

Essex House and Tavern

Essex House and Tavern

10/10 Excellent
"Because you’re staying in a room above a working tavern the rooms are considerably smaller than normal hotels. But it was clean. We had everything we needed even though it was a tiny bit cramped. Staff was excellent. The bar and restaurant downstairs had wonderful food and very good service."
