A fantastic getaway. A trip down to Izu peninsula is a common adventure for most in the Tokyo area, however the choice between towns isn’t always clear. This property takes away any concern. You can spend the entire trip in the luxury of the hotel or venture out to see the small city of Ito. A rich history of European visitors and access to the mountains within 5 minutes drive. Wonderful stay at Ryokan Kikuya. It's picturesque, with the stream running through it. Impeccable service, attentive yet discreet. Situated at the heart of Shuzenji Onsen town, one can go on short or long walks with interesting sites to visit.
We stayed for 3 nights. Even before checking in we messaged the hotel to schedule dinner and massage services, which we received detailed responses within a day. There is plenty of parking and we were greeted immediately. We were able to reserve the private onsen every day. The hotel staff were always so friendly and helpful. Their English was very good and if there was something difficult to say, we were able to use a translator app.

Really unique experience at a resort which caters to dog owners.. the dogs ate AT the tables… this place is ALL about the dogs. Nd dooo many cute ones!
Maybe the best hotel experience I've ever had. Room was amazing, with an onsen overlooking the sea. Shared onsens also available at the property were fantastic and provided a moonlit soak in a secluded grove. The staff was the picture of hospitality - warm, accommodating, and endlessly helpful. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional. Will be back for sure.
Having stayed in a plethora of ryokan over many years in Japan, this is one of the best experiences I've had so far. Wonderful staff, excellent food and character galore. I'll be going back.
