We stayed at Hotel Casa Gardenia for two lovely nights. It's located on a very quiet, nondescript cobblestone street just a few blocks from the Plaza Grande. The owners and staff were all very helpful and gave us a map of the area with recommendations on sites to visit. If you like to just walk around and explore, then the Hotel is in a great location for doing just that. We explored almost all of Old Town Quito without ever having to hire a driver.
