This is my 16th trip to Germany. The Torfhaus Resort rates as one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The location is perfect for hiking, biking, sightseeing or just relaxing. It is in the forest, but close to Altenau, Braunlage and other larger communities. The cottages are in excellent shape with the most modern appliances. Staff is very professional and always on duty. Our room was huge, way bigger than we needed. Check in was a bit difficult. At first the code she gave me to get my key didn't work and then she didn't explain that I needed to go to the room on the side of the building. There is a deep tub but no Sauna even though they advertise one as an amenity so that was disappointing but they're doing construction behind the building so that could be why. The parking lot was full when we arrived which was a pain but the street parking is free.
