This hotel is a small, family run hotel that is very lovely and restored so beautifully. The hotel is roomy, quiet, and a wonderful stay. Don't expect a lot of service extras, as reception has only a few hours a day, but they are available in case of emergencies. If you are looking for a quiet, tranquil get away, this is a perfect place. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had variety from day to day as well. Highly recommend.

A beautiful renovated castle in the Hartz mountains. I chose the hotel for it's location. The staff were very nice, the room was small however was clean, the restaurant dinner was excellent, a large buffet breakfast.
This is my 16th trip to Germany. The Torfhaus Resort rates as one of the best experiences that I have ever had. The location is perfect for hiking, biking, sightseeing or just relaxing. It is in the forest, but close to Altenau, Braunlage and other larger communities. The cottages are in excellent shape with the most modern appliances. Staff is very professional and always on duty. Clean, spacious room with amazing view up the street and Werningerode Schloss so very close upon the hill. V good breakfast and a lovely small sauna you can reserve a time for private use. We appreciated a break from the larger city hotels in Hamburg and Berlin to stay in a small cozy bnb style environment. You can step right out the door to shopping and food. The staff was v sweet and we wished we had more time here. Highly recommend!

The hotel was centrally located and had easy walk distance to the nearby castle and marketplace. The room was comfortable and the included breakfast had a wide variety. Several staff members could understand and speak English which helped a lot. I would definitely stay here again!
