We absolutely loved this place. It was by far our favorite stay during our 10 days in Japan. Definitely recommend spending extra on the dinner, it was amazing.
Fukuyama city is a hidden jewel. Most of the bullet trains stop here and the access to major places, including Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, Yokohama, Tokyo, and Fukuoka is a direct line. If you want to visit Tomonoura where major movies scenes were taken, including Studio Ghibli and The Wolverine, I highly recommend Fukuyama.
I have been attracting by Setouchi Shimanami Kaito bike touring for a long time through Taiwanese cycling enthusiasts. At age 75, my wife thinks I am crazy. I booked two nights at Suminoe for 6/17 and 18. The spacious room with ocean view and bidet toilet are very impressive. Miss Wang who is in charge, is very intelligent. She suggested and drove me to the Ikuchijima bike shop to rent a nice one. I started around 9 AM in light rain and stayed cool. No trouble going across Tatara Bridge, but...
This is an older hotel, as you can see from the photos, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well maintained it is. A typical business hotel with everything you need.

The location is excellent, very close to both the train station and the ferry terminal.
My personal highlight was the onsen. It is small, but very...
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast everyday was plentiful and tasty. It was different and fresh everyday. There was a relaxation room on the second floor that we used often. A massage service was available and we were able to access it. It was great. The hotel was in a good location to be able to find restaurants and shopping places. We would go back there again,
While I like this hotel for the cheap price and its location, I noticed the receptionist when I checked in encouraged me to use the machine in front of their desk. What an irony! They are training customers to use systems to replace themselves. The nice thing about this hotel is the flexibility if I want to extend my stay for a couple of hours. You can just pay $10 for every hour you want to extend. The facility is fairly new and it is only 100 meters from the bullet train station.
Very trendy and modern. I especially liked the traditional robes and belts, the Edison bulbs and writing on the mirrors. I enjoyed my stay and would return
