Large modern room with comfortable bed and separate bathtub & shower. Quiet location. Staff do not speak English, which is typical even for Western branded hotels in China. My room smelled a bit like sulfur, strongest near the toilet, but common areas did not. Air conditioner did not work. When reported to front desk, the complaint was met with a shrug. A bit of a walk from the historic area, but a gated walkway serves as a shortcut.

Before the trip, I went through a lot of websites, and found that it seemed impossible to find a hotel without smoking issues--people in Guiyang smoke in public areas including 5 stars hotels. Some complained about cigar smell in their non-smoking rooms--the worst was that it's the same after changing rooms. After reading reviews in Chinese and English, I concluded that at least, Kempinski's rooms are free form smoking. I especially asked for a room on the non-smoking floor at check-in....

A nice hotel in a popular area. Close to Qingyun Market/Pedestrian street and Jiaxiu Lou. Walking distance. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. There’s a coffee and puer tea bar in the lobby where guests can enjoy for free. Breakfast buffet was diverse. For the price we paid, it was worth it. The only thing I’d complain is the gym and swimming pool facility is actually outside of the hotel. They are an affiliate of the hotel. And the door doesn’t open till 9am which is kind of late for...
