Heraklion is Crete’s largest city and one of its most economically active. A mixture of new and old, the city celebrates its heritage at the Natural History Museum of Crete, which showcases the area’s unique wildlife. Take time to visit Agios Titos church, which has a Byzantine history dating back to the 16th century.
For a touch of modernity, walk past the fountains of Lions Square onto Handakos Street where you’ll encounter high-end boutiques, jewelers, and hip cafes. You’ll eventually reach the sea, where you’ll be just a short walk away from the ancient Venetian Harbor.
