The city’s largest theater, the New Theatre Oxford is host to many touring musicals, family friendly shows, and large-scale productions. There’s a varied calendar of events, from TED conferences to ballet and stand-up comedy, and this pretty Art Deco venue has been nicely renovated with modern comforts.

From street level it might seem unassuming, but look up to see ornate stonework. Inside, there’s no denying the grandeur. Tiered seating, balconies, and the elaborate geometric designs of its proscenium arch set the scene for spectacular performances.

The stage of the stylish Oxford Playhouse has played host to performances by some of Britain’s most famous actors and continues to host a lively program of events. They even have baby and toddler mornings to introduce little ones to the joys of music and performance.

You’ll find drama, comedy, and family shows, as well as productions by amateur theater groups and smaller poetry and studio shows. Make sure to try some of the ice cream at the interval. It comes from an award-winning producer less than 40 minutes from the theater.
