Highland Resort Hotel & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"Wonderful place"
The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko
8/10 Good
"The property was beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. However, it was overpriced for what it offered. The only amenity was the onsen bath, which had separate facilities for men and women, so we couldn’t enjoy it together as a family. Overall, the experience did not justify the high price, and we felt we didn’t get good value for the money."
The Fujiya Hotel

"Extremely unique and fantastic experience for a westerner."
Fujisan Onsen Hotel Kaneyamaen

YuYu Hakone - Private Open Air Onsen Usage Guaranteed
10/10 Excellent
"We stayed 1 night and throughly enjoyed our time. We wish we had stayed longer. We arrived at the property after spending the day exploring Hakone. We had taken the pirate ship across Lake Ashi and then took a bus to the stop right outside the ryokan. We were instructed to remove our shoes and don the provided slippers. The staff warmly greeted us and confirmed our onsen time which we had scheduled the day before. We booked ours for after dinner. We were led to our room which was a very clean traditional Japanese room with tatami. There was also a tv and a patio which was nice! Dinner was not included but it wasn’t too expensive, and it was delicious! I know some ryokan you eat in your room, but I liked that they had a separate dining room. The view outside was all forested so it made for a nice backdrop for our meals. The open air onsen was wonderful and was nice and hot. There are also showers for washing before you enter the onsen. There are no showers in the rooms so we just used the onsen shower during our time slot. The futons in the room were very comfortable and it was the best night of sleep I had on our entire trip. We woke to our amazing kaiseki breakfast ready in the dining room, which was very nutritious and gave us the energy to hike all day. In all we would 100% stay here again. We loved the whole experience and it felt like a true traveler’s inn. Bonus points for Ice, the adorable kitty manager!"

"Unique Japanese style hotel. Very comfortable. Good location"
Gora Kadan Fuji
10/10 Excellent
"The ultimate luxury escape at Mt. Fuji! 🗻 Gora Kadan Fuji, open just a year, is pure perfection. It features two massive public hot springs facing Mt. Fuji, heated indoor/outdoor pools, a gym, and a world-class SPA. The dining is spectacular! An entire floor hosts Kaiseki, Teppanyaki, and Omakase. I booked the half-board package (breakfast + dinner)—each dish was a masterpiece. In Vancouver, this dining quality would easily cost $400–$500 CAD per person. Including it is an absolute steal! The rooms boast elegant modern Japanese design, featuring a balcony with a private semi-open-air hot spring. Soaking while facing the unobstructed grandeur of Mt. Fuji is unforgettable. With bespoke 1-on-1 butler service, it’s an ultra-private, serene paradise!"
HOTEL MYSTAYS Fuji Onsen Resort

Susukinohara Ichinoyu
10/10 Excellent
"This stay was excellent, the location and onsens were incredible. From the private onsen in your room to the public onsen, it was a great experience. If you can absolutely recommend you take the meal option it's incredible for dinner and breakfast in the ryokan."
